Up-and-Coming Latin Music Songwriters Invited to Apply to Attend

New York, Aug. 3, 2023 -- The ASCAP Foundation announces the “The Latin Beat” Songwriting Program supported by the Harold Adamson Lyric Award  in partnership with the ASCAP Latino membership department. The program launches with a songwriting competition to discover the next generation of Latin music songwriting talent, and five writers will be selected to attend a two-day songwriting program in a city in Florida in October. This program is open to songwriters of Latin descent in the early stages of their career who write lyrics predominantly in Spanish.

The winning music creators will be paired with seasoned Latin music writers. Participants will craft a new song with their acclaimed mentors, and the program will culminate in a listening event to showcase their work.

“We’re excited to offer this new opportunity that supports the next generation of Latin music songwriters. We hope that the chance to workshop their craft with some of today’s top hitmakers will set them up for a successful career in music,” said The ASCAP Foundation Executive Director Nicole George-Middleton.

“The Latin Beat” Songwriting Program supported by the Harold Adamson Lyric Award application period begins August 3, 2023 and will end on August 31, 2023 at 11:59pm PST. Applicants are judged by industry professionals on their originality and the overall quality and craft of the song. This program honors the lyricist Harold Adamson, writer of “Time on My Hands” and “An Affair to Remember.” The famed lyricist was a contributor to the music of many Broadway shows and movies including Smiles, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Around the World in 80 Days. Adamson received five Academy Award nominations and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972. Award recipients must demonstrate talent and an intelligent and sensitive use of language, which the heirs of the late lyricist seek to recognize and foster in future generations. This Award is funded by Adamson’s royalties.
