NEW YORK, Oct. 3, 2022 – The ASCAP Foundation launches its first scholarship to support creators and performers of Latin descent who are writing and/or performing Latin music predominantly in Spanish.
The ASCAP Foundation Latin Initiative Scholarship, “Tu Música,” will benefit undergraduate or graduate students of Latin descent who are planning to pursue a career in music and/or a performance career in Latin music. Two recipients will each receive a $2,500 scholarship award to be used towards school tuition.
“We are excited to offer this new scholarship to support the education of future Latin music creators and provide opportunities for them to learn and excel at their craft,” said The ASCAP Foundation Executive Director Nicole George-Middleton. “We want to help increase representation in the Latin music communities at the college level as well as recognize new Latin music and upcoming talent.”
The ASCAP Foundation Latin Initiative Scholarship application period begins October 3, 2022 and ends at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on November 3, 2022. Applicants are judged by industry professionals in Latin music on the quality of works/performance and ability to demonstrate proficiency in songwriting, composing or performing of Latin music.
