Country Music’s Biggest Night Recognizes Top ASCAP Hitmakers

The 56th Annual Country Music Association Awards were truly something to sing about for the ASCAP country music family!

 

A first-time nominee and the most-nominated music creator of the night, Lainey Wilson was recognized as Female Vocalist of the Year and New Artist of the Year. The emerging country superstar declared: “I know I’m new to a lot of folks, but I won’t let y’all down. I promise you.”

 

Country music icon Alan Jackson accepted The CMA Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, honoring his impressive career and impact on the genre. Over the years, Jackson has released more than 20 albums and collections, charted 35 #1 hits, sold nearly 60 million albums and is among the genre’s most decorated figures with more than 150 awards, including three CMA Entertainer of the Year Awards, two Grammy Awards, the ASCAP Founders Award and the first-ever ASCAP Heritage Award. He teared up during his speech, telling the audience, “I’m still living that honky tonk dream, y’all.”

 

CMA regular Chris Stapleton won Male Vocalist of the Year, becoming the first six-time winner in the category, while Carly Pearce, alongside prolific songwriter-producer Josh Osborne, took home her third CMA award with Musical Event of the Year for chart-topping song “Never Wanted To Be That Girl.”

 

In recognition of their incredible vocal blend and creative chemistry, Old Dominion and Brothers Osborne earned Vocal Group of the Year and Vocal Duo of the Year, respectively, for the fifth time.

 

Recent smash “Buy Dirt,” co-written by ASCAP songwriters Jacob Davis, Jordan Davis and Matt Jenkins, won Song of the Year. Chart-topping producer Jonathan Singleton was honored for his work on Album of the Year Growin’ Up, while first-time CMA nominee Trent Willmon also took home a trophy for his production prowess on Single of the Year “‘Til You Can’t.”
