Pasek & Paul EGOT and More Big ASCAP Wins at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys

By Sarah Finegold  •  September 9, 2024

It was only winners in the building at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys on September 7 and 8. Dynamic songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul secured their EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony), making history in the process. They set the record for the fastest road to EGOT status, earning the four honors in only seven years and seven months. The two earned their final letter in the acronym (the E, for Emmy!) for their tongue-twisting, giggle-inducing patter song “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?” for Only Murders in the Building. They share the award with their co-writers, another prolific and celebrated songwriting duo, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Congratulations to Team Pickwick on this huge Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics win, and to Pasek and Paul for joining the illustrious EGOT club!

And there was more to celebrate for the musical minds behind Only Murders in the Building. Composer Siddhartha Khosla earned his first career Emmy for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score). Keen eyes may have spotted his cameo in the recent season premiere, shown tickling the ivory 88’s at an exclusive Hollywood party.

Composer Jeff Toyne (a distinguished alumnus of ASCAP’s Los Angeles Film Scoring Workshop) also earned his first Emmy, winning Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music for Palm Royale. Composer David Fleming took home the Emmy for Outstanding Music Composition For A Documentary Series Or Special for his score for Jim Henson Idea Man. Finally, ASCAP member Trygge Toven won Outstanding Music Supervision for his work on the high-octane video game adaptation series Fallout
