ASCAP Members Win Grammys in 52 Categories

What a night! The 66th annual Grammy Awards weathered a stormy night in Los Angeles to honor the creme de la creme of the music industry last night. The ASCAP family took home trophies in 52 categories – and can we give it up for the ladies? All nine of the categories represented in Sunday night's telecast were won by women artists.
ASCAP singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers took home the most awards of the night, winning four awards – three with her band boygenius and one for her collaboration with SZA, “Ghost in the Machine.” Victoria Monét also had a night for the books: with her Grammy-nominated two-year old daughter by her side, she won Best R&B Album and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical) for JAGUAR II, in addition to the buzzy Best New Artist award.
Theron Thomas was honored with Songwriter of the Year, Non-Classical, for hits like “Seven” (Jung Kook & Latto), “Told Ya” (Chlöe & Missy Elliott), “You And I” (Sekou) and many more. Killer Mike swept the Rap category with three Grammys. We also had triumphant first-time wins from Brandy Clark, Coco Jones and Paramore.
We were thrilled to see Chris Stapleton and Dan Wilson win Best Country Song for their collaboration "White Horse." The two master songwriters met in 2011 while performing at the ASCAP Experience (watch Chris's performance here and Dan's here), and returned a decade later for a special conversation called The Art of Collaboration.
Jay-Z took the stage to accept the Dr. Dre Global Impact award, accompanied by his daughter, ASCAP member Blue Ivy Carter, a Grammy winner herself.
And ASCAP legends stunned with a collection of truly memorable performances. After winning her 10th Grammy (Best Folk Album), Joni Mitchell took the stage to deliver a soulful rendition of “Both Sides Now” – her first ever Grammy performance. Tracy Chapman played her immortal song “Fast Car” with Luke Combs to a mesmerized audience, 35 years after she first performed it at the Grammys. Billy Joel graced us with his first new single in 30 years, “Turn the Lights Back On” and played out the show with his classic “You May Be Right.” For the in memoriam segment, Stevie Wonder honored his departed friend, Tony Bennett, while ASCAP Board member Jon Batiste rocked some Bill Withers songs to honor Clarence Avant with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and a slew of other musical heavyweights. Annie Lennox also sang a powerful rendition of “Nothing Compares 2 U” with backing from Wendy and Lisa. And U2 rocked out from The Sphere in Las Vegas.
