Acclaimed ASCAP Songwriters Hillary Lindsey and Gary Nicholson Join the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Class of 2022

Huge congratulations are due – ASCAP tunesmiths Hillary Lindsey and Gary Nicholson have been elected to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in the Contemporary Songwriters category. The Class of 2022 will join the ranks of esteemed Nashville storytellers including ASCAP members Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks, Bobbie Gentry, W.C. Handy, Townes Van Zandt, Bob Wills and so many more.

Lindsey, who received the Global Impact Award at the 2019 ASCAP Country Music Awards, has penned an impressive catalog of chart-topping songs including “Jesus Take the Wheel” (Carrie Underwood), “Girl Crush” (Little Big Town) and “Blue Ain’t Your Color” (Keith Urban). Of her induction, Lindsey shared, “This is just absolutely mind-blowing to me. It truly is. I am extremely humbled to be a part of this year’s class of nominees. The thought of my name even being thrown in the hat is mind-blowing to me. I want everyone to know I am so grateful and thankful for this honor.”

Known for his hits “That’s the Thing About Love” (Don Williams), “One More Last Chance” (Vince Gill) and “She Couldn’t Change Me” (Montgomery-Gentry), Nicholson said, “I came here in 1980, and I’ve attended many Hall of Fame inductions through the years. I never imagined things would evolve and, after these 42 years, this would actually occur. I am a product of this environment, this community of amazing songwriters and publishers. It was that synergy and that community that shaped me and gave me a way.”

The new group of inductees-elect will be honored at the 52nd Anniversary Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the Music City Center.
