ASCAP Family Dominates 2022 Oscar Music Nominations

We’d like to thank the Academy…for honoring so many well-deserved ASCAP creators with 2022 Oscar nominations!

ASCAP members dominated the Best Original Song category nominations. Broadway superscribe and Disney darling Lin-Manuel Miranda now finds himself one trophy away from the EGOT with his nomination for the bittersweet, lilting "Dos Oruguitas" from Encanto, the first song he has written fully in Spanish. His nomination marks only the 11th time in Oscar history that a non-English language song has been nominated.

Songwriting legend Diane Warren received her 13th Academy Award nomination for "Somehow You Do" from Four Good Days. Queen Beyoncé is celebrating her first Oscar nomination for her hit "Be Alive" from the Williams family biopic King Richard. In another exciting first nomination, superstar songwriting duo Billie Eilish & FINNEAS wowed the Academy with their title song for Daniel Craig’s final Bond flick No Time to Die; the song has already earned them a Grammy and a Golden Globe. 

In the Best Original Score category, Encanto’s musical mastermind Germaine Franco became the first Latinx woman ever nominated in the category. The great Hans Zimmer picked up a nomination for his cerebral, immense score to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. Finally, Jonny Greenwood’s sparse, otherworldly score for Jane Campion’s Power of the Dog nabbed a nomination.

Extra kudos to the ASCAP fam who earned nominations in other categories, including Kenneth Branagh (Best Director & Best Picture – Belfast), Adam McKay (Best Picture & Best Original Screenplay – Don’t Look Up), Will Smith (Best Actor & Best Picture - King Richard) and Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson (Best Documentary – Summer of Soul…or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised).

The 94th Oscars will take place Sunday, March 27, 2022 in Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC. Tune in to cheer on your faves!
