Six ASCAP Creators Earn 2023 Oscar Music Nominations

It’s our favorite time of year – Oscars season! As usual, ASCAP composers and songwriters saw the nominations roll in when the 2023 slate was revealed.

 

The Best Original Song category saw members of the ASCAP family nominated for 4 out of the 5 total selections! They include: Tollywood lyricist and singer Chandrabose for the rollicking "Naatu Naatu" from the epic Telegu blockbuster RRR. Director and writer Ryan Coogler earned his nom for Rihanna’s "Lift Me Up" from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Indie darling Mitski was tapped for "This Is a Life" from the exhilarating Everything Everywhere All at Once. And the legendary Diane Warren received her 14th Oscar nomination, this time for writing "Applause" from the feminist anthology Tell It Like a Woman.

 

The ASCAP fam also earned nominations in the Best Original Score category. Carter Burwell earned his third ever Oscar nomination for scoring Martin McDonough’s sensitive and sweeping The Banshees of Inisherin. Volker Bertelmann – who also performs as Hauschka – was recognized for his score for All Quiet on the Western Front.
