Rock Hall Welcomes ASCAP Superstars to Its Class of 2022

May 5, 2022

Say hello to our brand new Rock & Roll Hall of Famers! The Rock Hall announced this week that five ASCAP legends will join the 2022 class in the performer category. “Nobody does it better” than Carly Simon, the prolific and widely revered creator who personifies the singer-songwriter figure of the ‘70s. Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo certainly belong in the annals of rock history for their brilliant songwriting and cultural impact. Multi-hyphenate music legend Lionel Richie’s influence on American music cannot be overstated. Eurythmics helped usher in a new sonic era with their innovative and electrifying sound. And Duran Duran’s new wave anthems have resonated with fans and creators alike for over 40 years.

Honoring some of our most foundational figures in music, the Early Influence Award category is inducting “King of Calypso,” civil rights icon and ASCAP Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award winner Harry Belafonte. The Award for Musical Excellence goes to heavy metal giants Judas Priest – only the second band to ever win the award – and towering songwriting and record production duo Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.

Artists are eligible for Rock Hall nomination 25 years after their first commercial recording came out. The 2022 ceremony will be the first time in the Hall’s 37-year history that six women or women-led acts — Benatar, Dolly Parton, Simon, Elizabeth Cotten, Sylvia Robinson and Annie Lennox (half of Eurythmics) — will be inducted in one class.

The ceremony will take place on November 5 at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, with a radio simulcast on SiriusXM’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame radio channel. The event will also air on a later date on HBO and stream on HBO Max.

Congratulations to our global ASCAP family on this immense honor! Read more about the inductees at the Rock Hall website, and hear some of their music in the playlist below.
