ASCAP Members Score Seven Trophies at 2023 SCL Awards

February 21, 2023

The 2023 SCL Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, hosted by ASCAP member Darren Criss, honored composers and songwriters working in visual media across all styles and genres.

Michael Abels was the big winner. He earned Outstanding Score for a Studio Film for his most recent collaboration with Jordan Peele, Nope, as well as a Jury Award for Omar, the opera he co-composed with Rhiannon Giddens.

Cristobal Tapia de Veer nabbed the Outstanding Score for Television award for his mysterious musical backdrop for buzzy drama The White Lotus.

Songwriting legend Diane Warren took top song honors for her inspiring “Applause” (also nominated for an Oscar), while famed director Guillermo del Toro was cited for co-writing the charming “Ciao Papa” from his stop-motion adaptation of Pinocchio.

A second Jury Award went to the live concert film Women Warriors: The Voices of Change, featuring music from ASCAP Board member Sharon Farber and composer Anne-Kathrin Dern.

Congratulations to all of our SCL Awards winners!
