Michael R. Jackson’s A Strange Loop Leads 2022 Tony Award Nominations

Celebrating Broadway’s triumphant return, The Tony Awards announced the nominees for the 75th annual ceremony, and it’s no surprise the ASCAP musical theatre family received high praise for their incredible work.
After winning the 2020 Pulitzer Prize in drama, Michael R. Jackson’s A Strange Loop picked up 11 Tony nominations, including Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Orchestrations and Best Musical.

Paradise Square, featuring work by ASCAP members Masi Asare, Craig Lucas & Nathan Tysen, and pop-musical MJ, orchestrated by ASCAP’s Jason Michael Webb (and featuring many Michael Jackson classics co-written by ASCAP members), earned 10 nominations each. SIX: The Musical, with music & lyrics by Toby Marlow & Lucy Moss, was crowned with 8 nominations for its titular queens. The three hit shows earned nods for the highly coveted Best Musical category.
Beloved musicals Caroline, or Change, Company and The Music Man swept the Best Revival of a Musical category for the ASCAP family.
The 75th annual Tony Awards will be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, June 12 at 8:00 PM ET/5:00 PM PT. The broadcast will also be available to stream live or on demand on Paramount+.
