Your 2025 ASCAP Tony Award Nominees

🎶 We had a dreeeaaam 🎶 a dream about these 2025 Tony Award nominees! Tony nominations were announced Thursday, May 1 and the global ASCAP musical theatre family hit the heights: members of our ASCAP fam were the musical minds behind every nominee for Best Musical, and earned nods in all musical creator categories, including Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Orchestrations, Best Book of a Musical and Best Revival.

 

It was a happy beginning of Tonys season for Maybe Happy Ending. The heart-swelling new musical with music, lyrics and book by Will Aronson and Hue Park is nominated for a whopping 10 Tony Awards. These include Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Orchestrations and Best Book. And an extra congratulations to ASCAP songwriter Darren Criss – he’s nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for his portrayal of jazz-loving helperbot Oliver!

 

It was also a great day for Buena Vista Social Club. The musical, which tells the story of the legendary Cuban ensemble group, also earned 10 noms including Best Musical. Erik Della Penna (music & lyrics) and Itamar Moses (book) are also living the dream with 7 nominations for Dead Outlaw.

 

Best Revival of a Musical saw nominations for three iconic shows created by ASCAP Broadway greats: Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim’s epic Gypsy. Adam Guettel and Tina Landau's beloved Floyd Collins. And Andrew Lloyd Webber, Don Black and Christopher Hampton’s adaptation of Hollywood classic Sunset Blvd.

 

In the Best Original Score category, we are celebrating additional nominations for David Cumming, music & lyrics for Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical, as well as Joy Huerta and Benjamin Velez with the music and lyrics for Real Women Have Curves: The Musical.

 

These Best Orchestrations struck just the right chord: ASCAP nominees include Andrew Resnick and Michael Thurber for Just in Time, Will Aronson for Maybe Happy Ending, Bruce Coughlin for Floyd Collins and David Cullen and Andrew Lloyd Webber for Sunset Blvd.

 

Finally, a tip of the stovepipe hat to ASCAP member Cole Escola. The most madcap Mary Todd with the brattiest curls is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for their star turn in Oh, Mary!

 

Congratulations to our incredible crop of stage superstars nominated for Tony Awards this year! You can check out all of our nominees below. The 78th Annual Tony Awards will return to the legendary Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, June 8, 2025, hosted by Tony, Emmy, and GRAMMY Award-winner, three-time Oscar nominee and ASCAP-licensed songwriter Cynthia Erivo.
