ASCAP Family Sweeps the 76th Tony Awards Music Categories

Does anyone have a broom? The ASCAP family swept the music categories at the 76th Annual Tony Awards! And there’s even more to celebrate when we reflect on the 2023 Tonys. 

A massive congratulations to David Lindsey-Abaire and Jeanine Tesori – aka team Kimberly Akimbo! The big-hearted hit took home the most trophies of the night with five wins, including Best New Musical, Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations. A tremendous accomplishment for a truly special show. With her second win for Best Original Score, Jeanine Tesori joins legendary theater composer Betty Comden as the only women ever with two wins in the category. 

Jason Robert Brown found himself back on the Tonys stage 25 years later for the revival of his much-lauded Parade. He saw firsthand how audiences are connecting once again with the show, to the tune of the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical. 

The ASCAP family continued to bring the heat with Charlie Rosen and Bryan Carter winning Best Orchestrations for their rollicking instrumentals for Some Like It Hot. The show earned four awards in total for the night. Congrats to ASCAP members Marc Shaiman, Scott Wittman and the amazing creative team behind the hit musical. 

Finally, congratulations to 2022 ASCAP Foundation George M. Cohan/Friars Foundation Award winner Suzan-Lori Parks for her Tony for Best Revival of a Play for Topdog/Underdog.
