ASCAP Family Triumphs at the 2023 World Soundtrack Awards

Serving as the finalé for the 50th edition of Film Fest Ghent, the 23rd World Soundtrack Awards were presented with a ceremony and concert at Capitole Ghent on Saturday, October 21. The global ASCAP community celebrated four big winners amongst the prestigious ranks.
Volker Bertelmann – also known by his stage name Hauschka – was named Film Composer of the Year recognizing his scores for War Sailor, Memory of Water and the Oscar and BAFTA-winning All Quiet on the Western Front.
Simon Franglen won Discovery of the Year for his music for Avatar: The Way of Water, his first entry into the franchise and a whopping worldwide success.
Laurence Rosenthal, known for his work for Arthur Penn’s The Miracle Worker (1962), the popular series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (1995) and the theme & score to the long running hit series Fantasy Island (1977–1984) which credits his theme to the recent FOX reboot of Fantasy Island (2021–2023) among numerous TV movies and others, received the Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrated with a special tribute from the Brussels Philharmonic.
And the SABAM Award for Best Original Composition by a Young Composer went to 2018 ASCAP Foundation Betty Rose recipient Alec Sievern.
